Hi!  I’m Rose.  I’m a mother and a nurse, as well as being the founder of Nappy Bliss.

I used real nappies on my son when he was a baby because I was becoming increasingly concerned about what I was reading about the length of time it takes for disposable nappies to decompose, not to mention the impact of the raw sewage that would be entering the environment if I used them.

I was also working full time and knew realistically that washing nappies after a day’s work was more than I could cope with, so I found a nappy laundering service and put them to the test. I found this approach both easy and convenient, and I knew that I was doing my bit to protect my son’s future environment too.

Several years later, following a chance conversation with a new Mum wanting to use real nappies, I realised that there wasn’t a nappy laundry service in the New Forest area and Nappy Bliss was born.  We are a family run business, passionate about helping like-minded parents and nurseries to enjoy caring for their baby while protecting our natural environment.

So, how does it work?

Initial Meeting

We believe its really important that you have the opportunity of a face to face meeting with us to answer any questions you may have to ensure you are making the right decision for you and your baby. It’s also a great opportunity for us to give you a practical demonstration and allow you to experiment with real nappies yourself.

The Real Nappy System

Things have moved on a lot since terry nappies – there’s no complicated folding and no longer a pin in sight!  We use a two piece, pre-fold natural nappy system. This is a multilayered square of cotton that can be folded in two ways, depending on the sex of your baby (see Advice & Links).

A liner is used inside the nappy against your baby’s skin and this helps to keep your baby’s bottom dry. Any solid matter can simply be lifted off with the liner and dropped in the toilet. There are many different types of liners available including biodegradable and flushable ones (included in the weekly charge).  Alternatively, we sell washable liners that you simply put in with your normal laundry after putting solid matter in the toilet.

The liner and cotton nappy is then placed inside a shaped, breathable, waterproof outer wrap that is fastened using Velcro tabs on either side. Wraps are available in many different colours and patterns from plain white to cool and funky (so it’s even possible to use them to complement your baby’s outfit!). Wraps can be used for more than one nappy change and are simple to launder at home following manufacturer’s instructions. We have many different styles available to purchase.

After use, the nappies are placed in the lidded bin that we provide for you while you are using our service.

Weekly Service

We deliver fresh nappies to your door weekly, and at the same time, take the dirty ones away for laundering, when we launder professionally to NHS standards.  At the same time, we can deliver free of charge any other associated nappy supplies that you may need.

To help us reduce our impact on the environment even further our vehicles run on biodiesel. Very soon we are hoping to run our vehicles on locally sourced recycled cooking oils which will reduce carbon emissions and the use of fossil fuels.

Your first week is free of charge as a trial.  You may of course cancel the service at the end of this first week without further obligation.  However, we hope that you will continue to use the Nappy Bliss service and we ask you at this point to commit to a minimum of two months service.  You must give us one months notice to cancel.

Holidays

I took many two week trips away whilst my son was in nappies and continued to use real nappies while I was away.  There are a number of options for when you go away on holiday:

  1. We can supply you with enough nappies to cover your trip at no extra cost.
  2. You can suspend the service for the duration of your trip (a retainer fee of £3 per week applies).
  3. We can supply you with the most environmentally friendly disposables available at minimal extra cost. These nappies still have many of the disadvantages of regular disposables so this option is suggested as a last resort.
